Marta Hampton was born in Managua, Nicaragua but raised in New York City until high school.
She traveled throughout Central America between high school and college for two years.  During this time, she met her husband now married 37 years.  He is an Infectious diseases specialist, practiced 35 years and recently retired.

 Upon returning to the US to start college, her family moved from NY to Florida and thus she attended the University of Florida for undergraduate work as well as medical school.  She also stayed there to do her internship in internal medicine.

 Following her internship, she moved to Charleston, SC to complete her dermatology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).  Afterwards, she also completed at MUSC a dermatopathology fellowship.  She is boarded in dermatology and dermatopathology.

 After her fellowship, she stayed on faculty at MUSC for three years and then went into private practice in 1994.  She and her husband eventually merged their practices together at one location and found their specialities to be quite compatible for 20 years.

 They are blessed with three children.  The oldest is a pediatrician and will soon be joining MUSC faculty.  The middle son works for Verge Healthcare as a computer software developer in Charleston, SC.  The youngest attended the US Naval Academy and majored in History.  He is now a Lt junior stationed at Virginia Beach and married to a cute Marine who also attended the Naval Academy.  The newest family member is their first son (her first grandson) named Lucas who just turned one!!

 Outside of the office, she volunteers as a dermatologist for a free medical clinic on Johns Island two half days per month. She also enjoys teaching basic dermatology to 3rd year medical students that rotate in her office during a three-week selective in their junior year.

 Her other favorite hobbies include cleaning, organizing (not a typo!), walking her dog and attending medical mission trips to South and Central America via different church groups in Charleston.
